The Promoter-

The promoter is Sazerac UK Limited trading as Hi-Spirits 60 Marina Place Kingston upon Thames  KT1 4BH UK (“the Promoter”)

 

The Competition–

The title of the competition is “Southern Showdown 2019”.

How to Enter-

The competition is only open to residents of the UK aged 18 or over, excluding employees of Hi-Spirits Ltd. (“these Terms and Conditions”) will be entered into the competition; these venues are herein referred to as (“Registered Venues”).

By submitting an entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.

The opening date for entries is 0.01 1st February 2019. The closing date of the competition is 23:59 31st March 2019 (“Closing Date”)

No purchase necessary, however eligible individuals must develop an original, creative and replicable cocktail that includes a maximum of 7 ingredients, with one of the ingredients being a minimum of 25ml of Southern Comfort Original, Black or 100 Proof (“Cocktail”).

All entrant’s drinks must be entered with full specifications and photographs and answer the submission form questions.

Participants must submit a recipe for a Southern Comfort Cocktail and tell us in less than 250 words what inspired you to this recipe and how it reflects the Southern Comfort brand and heritage (“Inspiration”)

Each entries venue of employment must stock and sell Southern Comfort.

Maximum three entries per person during the promotional period.

Online Entry –

Those invited to the online entries will be judged by the following judging criteria, who will then be given a score out of one hundred (100) possible points (“Score”): Originality (20 points), Taste (40 Points), Name & story (10 points), Appearance (10 points), scalability (20 points)

‘Scalability’ is defined as: The cocktail needs to be replicable to anywhere up to 300 drinks in one night

The best twelve (12) valid entries in each Regional Group, as determined by the judges, will each be deemed a UK Bartender Challenger (“UK Bartender Challenger”).

UK Bartender Challenge –

There will be a total of twelve (12) UK Bartender Challengers. The Promoter will announce the details of each UK Bartender Challenger by Monday 15th April 2019. The challenge will occur on the 8th May 2019.

Entries will be divided into the following regional groups with two (2) ‘UK Bartender Challengers’ from each region: Scotland, Wales & South England, London East, London West, North, Midlands

The twelve (12) UK Bartender Challenger will be notified by email and/or phone call within 7 days of the end of the Entry Period and will need to respond to that notification in order to confirm their acceptance of their placement and availability to attend a UK Bartender Challenge Judging Round (defined below). All reasonable endeavours will be made to contact the UK Bartender Challengers during this time using the contact details provided on the entry form. Entrants should ensure they check their spam/bulk/junk folders for notification because if a response from a UK Bartender Challenger is not received within 7 days of the notification being made, that UK Bartender Challenger may lose their chance to participate in their UK Bartender Challenge. Proof of age, identity and eligibility may be required in order to claim participation.

In the event due to unforeseen circumstances a UK Bartender Challenger is unable to attend the UK Bartender Challenge Round on their original confirmed date/time, the Promoter may in its absolute discretion allow them one (1) additional opportunity to nominate a representative to fill their spot for the UK Bartender Challenge Judging Round outside of their chosen region, so long as it is confirmed by no later than Monday 1st May 2019.

At the UK Bartender Challenge, each UK Bartender Challenger will then be required to partake in the (“Bartenders Challenge”)

 

‘Bartenders Challenge’

The bartenders challenge will involve a series of challenge that will test all aspects of bartending including hosting, knowledge, composure, creativity, and speed.

Competitors must supply their own bartending utensils (shaker, bar spoon, strainer etc.) and any specialist ingredients or modifiers. Competitors must bring all glassware, props, liqueurs, juices and any other element of their cocktail. Upon prior agreement, Promoter will be able to supply some of the fresh ingredients and utensils required for the National Finalists to prepare their Cocktails, up to the value of £30 per National Finalist.

Otherwise only Southern Comfort and ice will be provided.

Cocktails may be presented in any shape of glass, cup or other hygienic and safe receptacle. Note; points are awarded for presentation.  Drinks may be served straight-up, or over cubed, cracked or crushed ice.

The best four (4) valid entries from the ‘Bartenders challenge’, as determined by the judges, will each be deemed a Grand Finalist (“Grand Finalists”).

National Final –

The four (4) winners from the UK Bartender Challenger Final will be invited to showcase their entry at The National Final in London on 10th June 2019. The promoter reserves the right to change this date due to any unforeseen circumstances.

The Promoter will announce the details of all National Finalists commencing on 8th May 2019.

There will be two prizes on the day “Overall winner” & “Peoples champion”

Overall winner

The judging or “score” criteria will be out of one hundred (100) possible points (“Score”): Taste (50 Points), Speed / Efficiency (15 points), Hospitality (20 points), Presentation / Appearance (15 points)

By entering the competition, you hereby warrant that all information submitted by you in your entry is true, accurate and complete in every respect. The Promoter reserves the right to verify any information contained in your entry and/or your eligibility to enter the competition.

The Promoter will not accept responsibility for entries that are lost, late, mislaid, incomplete, unintelligible, misdirected, damaged or delayed in transit, regardless of cause. No responsibility can be accepted for any technical failures of any kind or any unauthorised intervention in any part of the entry process, nor for any technical or human error, which may occur in the administration of the competition or the processing of entries.

Peoples champion

The judging or “score” criteria will be based on the number of “voting tokens” that are received by each applicant on the day of the grand finale.

Each attendee will have a maximum of one voting token on the night.

By entering the competition, you hereby warrant that all information submitted by you in your entry is true, accurate and complete in every respect. The Promoter reserves the right to verify any information contained in your entry and/or your eligibility to enter the competition.

The Promoter will not accept responsibility for entries that are lost, late, mislaid, incomplete, unintelligible, misdirected, damaged or delayed in transit, regardless of cause. Eligibility-

Employees of the Promoter any of the Promoter’s agencies and any of their parent and/or affiliate companies as well as the immediate family (spouse, parents, siblings, and children) and household members of each such employee are not eligible to enter. The Promoter reserves the right to verify entrants’ eligibility.

In the event of any dispute regarding the competition, the decision of the Promoter is final and no correspondence or discussion shall be entered into. The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify any entrant if it has reasonable grounds to believe the entrant has breached any of these Terms and Conditions.

Information collected from entrants will only be used for the purposes of entry into the competition and will not be disclosed to a third party except where absolutely necessary to fulfill the prize offered.

The Prizes and Prize Conditions –

Prizes: Those judged as the “Overall winner” & “Peoples champion” will be awarded a trip to New Orleans,

The prize Includes:

  1. Economy return flights from the Winner’s nearest city or transport hub to New Orleans, United States of America (including all airport and airline taxes);
  2. US travel visa for one.
  3. Return transfers from the winner’s residence to the departing airport
  4. Four nights accommodation in a hotel in New Orleans, United States of America (minimum 4-star);
  5. Return airport to hotel transfers;
  6. Admission to Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans;
  7. All meals and drinks are included, providing the individual stays within the travelling group.

Prizes are non-transferable, non-refundable and cannot be exchanged for any alternatives in whole or in part. The promoter reserves the right to provide an alternative prize or reward (as applicable) of equal or great value in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

The winners are responsible for all travel costs not listed above.  All other costs and expenses and any incidental costs are at the winner’s responsibility and are not included in the prize, such as accommodation, telephone/internet, food and drink, room-service, spending money, parking fees, insurance, visas, and gratuities. The winner and his or her travel companion(s) are solely responsible for having any necessary travel documents.

Winner announcement-

Southern Comfort (Sazerac UK) will announce the winner on the day of the National Final 10th June

The decision of The Promoter regarding any aspect of this competition is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.

Claiming the Prize –

The Promoter does not accept any responsibility if the winner is not able to take up the prize.

No prize will be awarded where any entrant has committed any form of misconduct (determined by The Promoter in its sole discretion).

Data protection and publicity –

If you are a winner of the competition, you agree that The Promoter may use your name to announce the winner of the competition and for any other reasonable and related promotional purposes.  The use is expressly limited in content to showing the winners in this capacity.

The winners may be required to take part in any publicity accompanying or resulting from the competition. By entering the competition, you:

(1) hereby assign to the Promoter the complete copyright and all other intellectual property rights with full title guarantee; and

(2) waive all moral rights,

in any promotional and advertising material, your competition entry and otherwise arising in connection with your entry to which you may now or at any time in the future be entitled under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 as amended from time to time and under all similar legislation from time to time in force anywhere in the world.

You agree to grant the Promoter a non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable licence in any intellectual property rights in the competition entry and any accompanying materials, to use, display, publish, transmit, copy, edit, alter, store, re-format and sub-licence the competition entry and any accompanying materials for such purposes.

Personal data supplied during the course of this competition may be passed on to third-party suppliers only insofar as required for fulfillment/delivery/arrangement of the prize. The Promoter will comply with all applicable data protection laws.

General –

By entering the competition, you hereby warrant that all information submitted by you is true, current and complete.

Any information submitted by you must be personal to and relate specifically to you. You hereby warrant that the information you submit and/or distribute will not infringe the intellectual property, privacy or any other rights of any third party, and will not contain anything libelous, defamatory, obscene, indecent, harassing or threatening.

The Promoter reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to remove and disqualify any entry that does not adhere to these Terms and Conditions.

The Promoter reserves the right to amend or withdraw the competition if circumstances arise which are beyond its reasonable control.

The winners may be required to take part in any publicity accompanying or resulting from the competitions. By entering the competitions, you hereby assign to the Promoter the complete copyright and all other intellectual property rights whatsoever in any promotional and advertising material and similar which arises out of or is in connection with the competitions.

The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with the operation of the competition or to be acting in violation of these Terms and Conditions or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner (determined by the Promoter in its sole discretion). Any attempt by any person deliberately to undermine the legitimate operation of the competition may be a violation of criminal and civil law and, should such an attempt be made, the Promoter reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. The Promoter’s failure to enforce any of these Terms and Conditions shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.

Limitation of Liability – 

Except where prohibited by law, entrants agree that:

(1) any and all claims, judgments, and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering the competition, but in no event legal fees; and

(2) under no circumstances will entrants be permitted to obtain awards for, and entrants hereby waive all rights to claim, indirect, punitive, incidental and consequential damages and any other damages, other than actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages otherwise increased.

The Promoter does not accept any responsibility for accidents, losses, or thefts whilst the winners are participating in the prize.

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits or excludes the Promotor’s liability for (1) death or personal injury caused by negligence; (2) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or (3) any other liability that cannot be excluded under English law.

Governing Law and Jurisdiction –

The competition will be governed by English law and entrants to the competition submit to the jurisdiction of the English courts.
